The Future of the Office Dress Code Brought Forth by a New Generation. Good or Bad for Business?

December 7th, 2009 by Rachel | Print

An article I recently came across discussed the implications of the generation gap in the workplace. The Illinois consultant interviewed used the flip flop as a symbol of this divide – a very specific symbol however as I have seen many a flip flop clomping around the office during the work day. I am a frequent wearer of flip flops, but always to wear and and from the office, not at the office. However, I started pondering the reasoning behind office dress codes becoming more lax in recent years, and I believe this article brings up a valid point that it may be coming not from office management, but from the “Millennials” entering into the work force and either not knowing how to dress for work or not caring. Do we compromise with the future workplace employees and shrug our shoulders at what seems to be the future of the working wardrobe? Or is it important to make sure that the standard of office dress is followed for the betterment of business? An interesting topic of discussion I pose to you, fellow readers. Please comment and share your thoughts.
